About us

Locally owned. Relationship-first. Here to keep showing up.

Tauhi Group is a Townsville organisation providing culturally responsive, trauma-informed and strengths-based support through assertive outreach and supervised family time.

Our name

Tauhi: to nurture and care for.

“Tauhi” is of Tongan heritage. It means to nurture, to care for, and to leave people in a better shape or space, and to do so wholeheartedly. It is how we want every young person and family to feel after working with us.

How we began

Tauhi Group grew out of frontline experience in child and youth services, from residential care work through to team leadership, case management and service management. We saw how much consistent relationships and reliable support matter, and created a smaller, more personal service where young people receive genuine connection and practical help tailored to them.

From our Director

“Meaningful engagement starts with trust, patience and a willingness to meet young people where they are.”

With over six years in the youth and community services sector, I have supported young people with complex needs, trauma experiences and challenges with engagement, family connection and community participation. I established Tauhi Group to give young people consistent, respectful and relationship-based support.

What guides us

Mission, vision and values

Our mission

To walk alongside young people in out-of-home care who are disengaging, using persistent, culturally grounded and strengths-based outreach to restore safety, connection and hope.

Our vision

Every young person in care experiences safety, stability, cultural identity and the skills to thrive.

Our values

  • Child safety and wellbeing are paramount
  • Cultural safety and connection
  • Strengths-based, trauma-informed practice
  • Young people’s voice and agency
  • Persistent, flexible, relationship-first engagement
  • Collaboration and accountability

We support all young people in out-of-home care. We acknowledge the significant over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in the child protection system, and we work to ensure our practice is culturally responsive to their needs. We work alongside young people, families, carers, Child Safety and other professionals.

Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge the Wulgurukaba and Bindal peoples, the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands and waters of the Townsville region.

We pay our deepest respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and recognise their continuing connection to Country, culture and community.

This Acknowledgement is a living commitment. It reminds us that the places where we work, the young people we support, and the communities we serve sit within a much longer story of culture, kinship and care.

We honour the strength, resilience and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
